We are living through what some have called "safetyism" or the safety generation, a focus on protection, which not only includes efforts to prevent head injuries, but also to create safe spaces and environments devoid of any uncomfortable feelings. However, overprotecting and over-comforting can rob individuals of their growth process and stunt their ability to cope with the very real unsafe world. Instead, a better approach is to encourage and support individuals, offering help when needed, but trusting in their ability to handle obstacles and recover from falls.
